Auto-Prepare Workspaces: Let ResumeStart Tailor Your Top Job Matches Every Week

Most job seekers apply to a role the same way every time: open a dozen tabs, paste a job description into a document, tweak their resume for twenty minutes, fire off the application, and immediately forget which version of their resume they sent. If they even bothered tailoring at all.

It is not laziness. It is math. Applying to a job properly — reading the description carefully, weaving in the right keywords, writing a cover letter that doesn't sound like a form letter — takes time. Do that for thirty jobs and you have burned a week of your life before anyone has called you back.

ResumeStart's new Auto-prepare workspaces feature is built to change that equation. Once you turn it on, the system quietly does the tailoring work for you — surfacing your best-matched jobs every week and building ready-to-use workspaces while you sleep. Here is exactly how it works and how to get started.

What a "workspace" actually is

When you hit Prepare & Apply on a job in ResumeStart, the AI does three things in one shot: it tailors your resume to that specific posting, writes a cover letter that references the actual company and role, and scores your application against the job description so you know how well it fits before you send it.

Everything lands in a single workspace — your tailored resume, your cover letter, your ATS score, and the apply link — all in one place. No version confusion. No hunting through downloads for the right PDF. You open the workspace, see the score, make any edits you want, and apply. That whole process typically takes two or three minutes instead of thirty.

Auto-prepare does exactly this, but without you having to initiate it. Every week, the system looks at the jobs that best match your profile and builds workspaces for the top five automatically. You come back to a notification that says "We prepared 5 workspaces for you this week" — and your only job is to review them and apply.

How the matching works

The system scores every job in the database against your profile using three signals: how well the job title lines up with your preferred roles, how many of your skills appear in the job description, and whether the role is in the right location or market for you. Each signal contributes to a score out of 100.

Only jobs that clear a meaningful threshold make it into the auto-prepare queue. The bar is deliberately set high enough that you're not waking up to workspaces for jobs you would never apply to, but low enough that you're not missing strong opportunities because of a slightly different job title. Think of it as a smart filter that only acts when it's confident.

The system also avoids creating duplicates. If it already built a workspace for a particular posting, it won't build another one. Your weekly notification will only surface genuinely new opportunities.

How to turn it on

Auto-prepare is off by default — it only runs for you if you explicitly enable it. Here is how:

  1. Go to Job Matches in your ResumeStart dashboard.
  2. Click Edit on the Job Discovery hub (the settings panel at the top).
  3. Make sure you have a resume selected in the Resume dropdown. This is required — the system needs to know which resume to tailor from. If you have multiple resumes, pick the one that most closely reflects where you are in your career right now.
  4. Scroll down to the Auto-prepare workspaces toggle and switch it on. It saves immediately — no need to click Save or Find My Matches.

The toggle is grayed out if you haven't selected a resume. This is intentional: without a resume, there is nothing to tailor from, and the system can't do its job.

Once enabled, the feature runs on a weekly schedule. You don't need to do anything else. You can leave the job matches page, close the browser, go about your week — and the system will work in the background.

How you get notified

When auto-prepare creates new workspaces for you, a bell icon in your dashboard sidebar lights up with a notification badge. You'll see it the next time you open the app, on any page — not just the home screen.

Clicking the bell opens a small panel listing each new workspace: the company name, the job title, and when it was prepared. Clicking any entry takes you directly to that workspace, where you can review the tailored resume, read the cover letter, check your ATS score, and decide whether to apply.

If you want to clear all notifications at once, the panel has a "Mark all read" button. Once you dismiss a notification, it won't reappear — the badge resets and stays clear until the next weekly run surfaces new matches.

What you do with the workspaces

Auto-prepare does the heavy lifting but it does not apply for you. That part is still yours. The idea is to compress the friction, not to remove your judgment from the process.

When you open an auto-prepared workspace, you will see:

  • Your tailored resume — keywords from the job description woven into your existing experience, without fabricating anything or changing your writing voice.
  • A cover letter — written to the specific company and role, with the right names and emphasis in the right places.
  • An ATS score — a 0–100 rating that tells you how well your tailored resume matches what the job description is looking for.
  • The apply link — a direct link to the application form, so you can go straight from reviewing to applying in one click.

You can edit any of these before applying. If a bullet point doesn't sound right, rewrite it. If the cover letter opening feels generic, personalise it. The workspace is a starting point, not a final product — but it is a starting point that would have taken you thirty minutes to get to on your own.

A few things worth knowing

It uses your active resume. The system uses whichever resume is currently selected in your Job Matches preferences. If you want to use a different resume as your base, update the selection in the hub before the next weekly run.

It runs once per week. The schedule is deliberate. Running more frequently would create too many workspaces too fast — five strong leads a week is more useful than fifty mediocre ones.

Turning it off is instant. Flip the toggle back and the weekly run will skip you entirely. No workspaces, no notifications. Your previously created workspaces stay in your applications list — toggling off just stops new ones from being created automatically.

It works best with a specific resume. The more complete your resume is — clear job titles, detailed skills, a location or preferred market set — the better the matching scores will be, and the more relevant the auto-prepared workspaces will feel.

Why this matters for your job search

The biggest bottleneck in most job searches is not finding jobs. Job boards are not hard to navigate. The bottleneck is what happens between "I found a job I want" and "I submitted a strong application." That gap is where most people either send a generic resume and hope for the best, or spend so much time tailoring that they burn out before they have applied to enough jobs to get traction.

Auto-prepare collapses that gap. It does not replace the judgment call of whether a job is right for you — that is yours. But it removes the preparation overhead so that when you do decide to apply, the hard work is already done. You open the workspace, verify the quality, make any adjustments you feel are needed, and apply.

Over the course of a job search, that is a meaningful difference. Five workspaces a week, reviewed quickly and applied to selectively, compounds into a real pipeline — without the Sunday-night dread of trying to tailor six applications before Monday morning.

Frequently asked questions

  • What does Auto-prepare workspaces do?

Once enabled, the system runs every week and automatically builds tailored resume and cover letter workspaces for up to five of your best-matched jobs. You get a notification in your dashboard when they are ready, and can review, edit, and apply from each workspace.

  • Do I need a resume to use Auto-prepare workspaces?

Yes. You need to have a resume in ResumeStart and select it in the Job Matches hub before enabling the toggle. The system uses your selected resume as the base for tailoring.

  • How often does Auto-prepare workspaces run?

The system runs once per week on a fixed schedule. This is intentional — five strong, well-matched workspaces per week is more useful than dozens of mediocre ones created every day.

  • Can I turn off Auto-prepare workspaces?

Yes. Flip the toggle off in the Job Matches hub and the weekly run will skip you entirely. Any workspaces already created stay in your applications list — only future automatic creation stops.

  • Will it create duplicate workspaces for the same job?

No. The system checks whether a workspace already exists for a particular job before creating a new one. Each job will only ever have one auto-prepared workspace.
